2012: The year in review

There were many matches that made their mark in 2012... stunning results, spectacular battles, dramatic turns of events...

OL - PSG on February 25 was a great moment thanks to the high stakes and the number of goals - four for each side! Either PSG or OL could have won it, but in the end it was a fitting draw after a spectacular match neither side deserved to lose. There was also the match at the Parc des Princes in the quarter-finals fo the Coupe de France (March 21) with some clinical finishing from OL as well as Hugo Lloris' heroics between the sticks to deny the Parisians. It was a stylish way to qualify, as was their improbable stoppage-time comeback against Lorient in the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue (January 31). And how could we forget the Coupe de France final against US Quevilly on April 28, when Rémi Garde's charges won the competition for the fifth time in the club's history, or the loss against Marseille in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue (April 14) at the end of extra time in a dry encounter.

Of course, in the match on March 7 in Nicosia, OL got a huge kick in the head with their shock elimination in the last 16 of the Champions League!

On July 28 in New York, OL got the new season off to a perfect start by claiming the club's seventh Trophée des Champions with a win over Montpellier. There was also the great spectacle on October 7, on Lorient's synthetic pitch, and the great match on November 4 against Sporting Bastia. Then there was the footballing lesson that OL taught Marseille at the Vélodrome... and let's not forget crazy scenes against Shmona (October 4), the two matches against Athletic Bilbao... and the very special return match against Shmona with a team full of youngsters (December 6).

And, finally, the top-of-the-table clash at the Parc des Princes, on December 16, for all the hype and drama even though the match didn't really live up to expectations.
