A few Olympic statistics...

The 37th meeting in L1 at the Stade Vélodrome between Marseille and Lyon. And some Olympic statistics to go with it…

In terms of big wins, the biggest in Lyon’s L1 history is the 8-0 win at the Stade Gerland in 1996-97. Coupet played that day. But in the big losses department there is also the 7-0 loss at Le Vél in 1990-91, which remains the biggest to this day. That was the Lyon of Garde, Génésio, Rousset…

In the last eight matches in Marseille, OL has registered three wins and five draws (the last defeat, a 0-1 in 1997-98). Sidney Govou has often scored against OM: 1 goal at the Stade Vélodrome (1-1 in 2002-03) and three at the Stade Gerland (4-0 in 2001-02, 1-1 in 2004-05 and 2-1 in 2005-06). At the Stade Vélodrome, Juninho has scored two goals. ‘Sid’ and ‘Juni’ are currently OL’s two top scorers against OM.

Within their two squads there are several players who were teammates elsewhere: Vercoutre with Pagis and Niang at Strasbourg; Squillaci with Maoulida at Monaco; Toulalan with Bamogo at Nantes; Réveillère with Maoulida at Rennes… Vercoutre began his Ligue 1 career with Montpellier against OM; Beye began with Strasbourg versus OL. The Marseille coach Albert Emon was a Lyon player from 1981 to 1983. His assistant, Dominique Cuperly was Jacques Santini’s assistant at OL from 2000 to 2002, and then Paul Le Guen in 2002-2003.
