A point taken

Nervous at the start of the encounter, the Olympians picked themselves up in the second half and mlanaged to come away from the stade de la route de Lorient with a point.

Against a Breton side which had not played for two weeks, the Olympians debut to the match was catastrophic. During the first five minutes of play Hugo Lloris won a duel with Dalmat then pushed away a shot from Tettey. After another blunder from his defense, the Lyon goalkeeper was unable to stop a shot into the top corner signed Kembo Ekoko (5’). Claude Puel's players lifted their heads and were close to equalizing following a volley from Gomis (7’) and then a header from Jean Makoun (15’). Rennes appeared as if starved almost beyond the limit, as evidenced by a kick in the chest on Miré Pjanic by Tettey (21’). Antonetti’s players created a great opportunity through Dalmat who fired a few inches wide of the post (31'). Claude Puel decided to move Michel Bastos back to left fullback in place of Källström who moved into the midfield. The Swede started to show what he can do, firing off three successive shots. Just before the break, his last attempt hit the post of Douchez...

The Olympians kicked off the second half with another face altogether. Bafé Gomis showed himself very valuable with his play back to goal, forcing the Bretons into committing multiple mistakes. From a free kick right in the middle of the park, Michel Bastos fired a missile into the top corner of Douchez’s goal and thus provided the equalizer to his team (53’). Despite this, Rennes continued to forge ahead with Dalmat soliciting Hugo Lloris with a powerful shot from the right side of penalty area (63’). Fatigue started to be felt more and more as the minutes ticked by. Despite some good actions, including a one-two between Makoun and Pjanic which was concluded with a shot that grazed the post, the Olympians were not able to overtake Rennes.
