A superb run synonymous with optimism

Published on the 13 December 2010 à 10:20 by R.B

Lyon have reached the bar of 10 league matches without defeat...Moreover they have taken 24 points from a possible 30 and have made their way onto the podium for the first time this season...Match retour...

What a run since that "famous defeat" against the Greens! 24 points picked up from 10 matches for Cris and his teammates for a fantastic ascent in the standings...on the podium just 2 points behind the leaders, Lille, and one behind second placed PSG. OL are back in the title race. A fact? With 29 points from 17 matches, the seven-time champions of France have the same number of points as last season at the same time.

The podium? This is the first time this season. 10 games in row without defeat in the league? This is the first time this has happened in the Claude Puel era.

This OL, invincible on the domestic scene, now shows more character and skill in their style of play despite the absences of Toulalan, Gourcuff, Ederson, Delgado, despite varying levels of form within the squad, despite changes in the composition of teams, positions for certain players; despite mood swings, still in its general expression. Against a poor Toulouse, Lloris's teammates were quickly able to take the ascendency in order to avoid any problems. 2-0 at half time? It is only the second time this has occurred since early August. 0 goals conceded? The sixth time in 24 games.

Solid and realistic in the image of Lisandro, one goal from 2 shots and Gomis, a goal from one shot. These strikers have scored 8 of the last 9 league goals during the last 4 matches!

Solid as those players who have been criticized, booed ... Solid as the coach like an immovable rock.

This good run needs to be built on in the last two games before the break. A summit match at the Stade Vélodrome and the reception of Auxerre in the hope that Lyon will succeed in finally winning before a little rest, something that has not happened since December 21st, 2000 against Saint-Etienne ( 2-1). These last 9 games are synonymous with 3 losses and 6 draws!

Optimism has returned especially since over the last few weeks, coach and players have announced an even brighter future. It would now be inappropriate to doubt.
