And now…

Olympique Lyonnais now only have one competition to occupy them until 23 May to reach their goal of qualifying for European competition next season...

"And now what will I do, with all this time that will be the rest of my life...?" Gilbert Becaud had a huge hit with this song in the 1960s, about a jilted lover... It's perhaps going a little too far for Maxime Gonalons and Co. It's actually a fairly simple equation... in fact it's very simple: the championship remains with the aim of finishing as high as possible to try and qualify for Europe, directly or via the preliminary rounds. And because the current league position is so favourable, obviously eyes are currently focused on the Champions League.

17 matches in 17 weeks with one weekend off in late March for an international break, Lyon have a light calendar until the end of the season. Just as a reminder, last season the seven-time French champions played 61 matches. This season the tally will stop at 45. No more midweek dates... no risk of burnout... For certain, the season may get a little long even...

Fortunately, we hope that the best is still to come. Without talking about the title, a top-three finish is not an unrealistic aim. The phenomenal Alex Lacazette and his teammates have their fate in their own hands, thanks especially to matches to come against all their direct rivals...

17 matches… 51 points up for grabs and the countdown begins this weekend on Sunday against FC Metz with one eye on what happens around the grounds where Marseille, Paris and Saint-Etienne will also be in action...

OL are great to watch, charming and seducing fans... they may have rested a little too heavily on their laurels against Nantes, but they now know what awaits them... now, and for the next 17 weeks...
