first team / Monaco - OL D -1

Build up the points total

After the three points taken against Boulogne, it would be good to bring back a positive result from Monaco, against a side who are often unpredictable...

OL had no room for error on Wednesday night against promoted Boulogne. In trouble and whistled by their own supporters, the seven times French champions did the strict minimum to take the three points of the victory. It was difficult! This victory replaced OL in fourth place, still 8 points behind Bordeaux. With two matches to go before the winter break, six points are there to be won, six points which would allow the team to limit damage and end up the year on 35 points. But, are OL capable of winning them all? We have to be honest and say there is a mix of optimism and pessismism …

If OL have not been in great form over the last few weeks, Monaco have been just as bad having only taken 1 point from the 5 encounters preceeding Wednesday’s win over Rennes. This Monaco side are dependant on Nené, an extraordinary free-kick taker, author of 10 goals and a formidable passer of the ball. Monaco who will also be able to count on the talent of Mongongu, Nkoulou, Mollo, Park, Alonso… What face will Guy Lacombe’s side show on Sunday night? They are difficult to predict.

OL must build on the 3 points taken against Boulogne. They will be able to count on the return of Cris and maybe those of Lisandro, Toulalan and Bodmer. A different team which will inspire more optimism, even if we cannot expect miracles from Toulalan and Mathieu. The essential for OL will be to show the progress they have shown in their play and to bring back a positive result from Monaco. It would seem to be something within the realms of the possible for Lloris and his team-mates.
