Claude Puel : "We are under no obligation to recruit"

Claude Puel answered questions from the Press yesterday. He spoke of the return to training, the training camp at Dinard but also the winter transfer market...

Claude, you got back together with your players yesterday. How were they after 8 days off? I felt a lot of freshness in the two sessions yesterday, especially mentally. There was also a lot of intensity in the play, and desire … All that is very good for a manager.

After a few days at Tola Vologe, will you be going away for a training camp on Friday?
Yes, we will be heading for Dinard. On Saturday we have a match against Concarneau at Guingamp and then we will be back in Dinard until Thursday the 8th of January. I think that it is important to get the squad back together like this and have everyone in the same place before attacking the second half of the season.

We’re also in the transfer window…With all the injuries you have, do you need to recruit?
We aren’t worried, but we have never hidden the fact that if we could bring someone in then we would, especially with everything we have coming up. But we are under no obligation to recruit. If we can’t, then we’ll get by with the squad we have now. We don’t exactly have our backs to the wall. A number of players have shown their adaptability, we will continue working on that … Afterwards if we can have experienced players in specific posts, it’s always better …

Do you have any leads?
There are always leads and possibilities. We’ll see if anything comes of them but, you know, in a transfer there is always a lot of people involved. We have a look and see what is possible but the positive point at the moment is that we are slowly but surely getting our injured players back. It’s a bit like a transfer market for us...

Yesterday, there was talk of an OL bid for Alberto Gilardino (Fiorentina)…
OL offered a figure? (laughs)… No, it’s just a rumour, but if Gilardino wants to join us he’ll be more than welcome!

Have you spoken to Fred about his future?
We spoke before he went back to Brazil. We haven’t spoken since and everything has been said. He will finish the season with us.

A final word on the injured players. Miralem Pjanic seems to be coming back …
Yes, Miralem has been following a programme during the break. He is not limping anymore and he is the first of the long term injured players to make it back. He will be available for us in the Coupe de France match on Saturday.

Mathieu Bodmer also looks like he could be back soon?
Mathieu is running but it will take a bit longer for him. He should be available by the end of January.

It should be noted that François Clerc (ruptured knee ligaments) is also getting back to activity after his lay off.
