OL 1-3 FCGB: OL no longer invincible at the Parc OL...

Published on the 10 September 2016 à 18:42 by SC, CC

OL had a nightmare match, falling to a second-straight Ligue 1 defeat - their first ever in Décines. Gonalons' red card and an injury to Lacazette made things that much worse on an afternoon to forget - four days out from their first Champions League clash of the season.

. HIGHLIGHTS .

2’. Goal for Kalulu, pouncing on the loose ball in te box. 1-0.

22’. Diakhaby's volley blocked by Carrasso - and the cross-bar.

33’. Malcom scores with a shot from the edge of the area. 1-1.

42’. Lopes saves Ounas' point-blank shot.

66’. Ferri's shot parried by Carrasso.

67’. Gonalons sent off for a dangerous tackle on Malcom.

71’. Sertic scores with a header. 1-2.

90’. Menez scores with a shot deflected by Yanga-Mbiwa. 1-3.

. SUMMARY.

After eight months without  defeat in their new home, OL fell for the first time at the Parc OL on Saturday against Bordeaux. Nonetheless, things had started well for the home side, with fox-in-the-box Aldo Kalulu striking in the 2nd minute. And then not much. Bruno Genesio's side, handicapped by a pile of injuries, couldn't surf the wave. Quite the contrary, in fact…

OL progressively handed the reins of the match over to the visitors and, Diakhaby's header onto the bar and Lacazette's free-kick aside, they really struggled to get their attack going and get forward to trouble Bordeaux. The Girondins made the most of this, equalizing through Malcom, and then when Gonalons was sent off in the middle of the second half, and when Lacazette was forced off injured after the coach had made all three substitutions, the day turned into a nightmare. OL may have shown some pride by pressing hard in the very final stages, but there was no avoiding a second-straight league defeat in a match where precious little wen in their favour.

. THE TURNING POINT .

Mouctar Diakhaby could have made it 2-0

Mouctar Diakhaby had surely dreamed of a very different scenario for his first match with the senior team. The big central defender couldn't stop OL's defeat - their second in a row in the league - but he tried his best to. In defence, he was generally imperious and very effective in the challenge. For Bordeaux 's two goals, he could do little: not from Malcom's shot and not from Sertic's header. The afternoon could have been amazing however, had his volley not crashed off Carrasso's cross-bar when OL were a goal up in the 22nd minute.

. LA STAT .

1

The Parc OL is no longer an impregnable fortress. Against Bordeaux, OL conceded a first loss after 11 matches undefeated at their new home in Décines. Before this match, Maxime Gonalons and co. had a record of nine wins and two draws. And before Bordeaux scored three goals, OL had only conceded eight goals at the Parc OL since its inauguration in the match against Troyes in January.

Expert Eye

Jérémy Berthod:

"It's a very painful night, above and beyond the defeat. There were injuries, a red card and some big questions in terms of our quality of play. We're behind schedule in terms of where we want to be on the table. This evening created a lot of doubt in our heads as we get set for the Champions League. The third goal was meaningless as we were down to nine men. But we need to rediscover our solidity at the back, because this is worrying."

54’. But de Kurzawa, seul face à Lopes 4-0.
