Fred-Carew... battle of the goal-scorers

Published on the 28 April 2006 à 12:22 by R.B

Just a few games from the end of the season, the striking position has been the most rotated position in the Lyon squad (barring injury), shared between the Brazilian Fred and the Norwegian John Carew. Take a look at the numbers...

What a match... only 77 minutes separate the two internationals in terms of playing time: Fred has played 2,450 minutes (1,674 in the championship, 360 in the Coupe de France, 120 in the Coupe de la Ligue and 296 in the Champions League) and Carew 2,373 minutes (1,546 in the championship, 55 in the Coupe de France, 0 in the Coupe de la Ligue, 90 in the Trophée des Champions and 625 in the Champions League).

Carew started six games in a row from the Trophée des Champions until the league match away to Auxerre... and that was before Fred had arrived and made his debut against Monaco. Fred has also started six games in a row, from the match against Troyes until last weekend against Monaco… will it continue? Fred has started 20 games in total and Carew 21. Fred was systematically chosen to start in the Coupe de France.

Fred has been replaced 11 times during games, six times by Carew... The Norwegian has been replaced 17 times including 12 times by Fred... The only time both players started the same match was against Ajaccio in the Coupe de France. In 10 other games they were on the field at the same time (Bordeaux, Nantes in the league and the Coupe de la Ligue, Sochaux, home and away, Toulouse, Troyes, Lille, Real Madrid and Marseille in the Coupe de France).

Carew has scored 15 goals (8 in the league, 3 in the Trophée des Champions, 4 in the Champions League); Fred has scored 14 goals (10 in the league, 2 in the Champions League, 2 in the Coupe de France).

The two players have 270 minutes to find a winner...
