After three consecutive draws in the L1, OL need to get back into a champions kind of form in this Week 16 match. Their objective: forget about a disappointing month of November in order to kick off a crucial month of December in the best possible manner.
Last Sunday, OL finished up with the month of November. Finally, we could say, so much recent performances were disappointing and did not reassure in view of their primary objective, the reconquest of the title of French champions at the end of the season.
November and the three draws against Olympique de Marseille (5-5), Grenoble (1-1) and Rennes (1-1) have happily enough to put paid to their chances. Cris and his team-mates are, in effect, still just two points behind the leaders Bordeaux going into Week 16.
But, OL need to get over this dip on form, and get back what they showed at the end of the summer, which promised so much for this season. Claude Puel’s side don’t have any choice with a “heavy” month of December, with a total of six encounters including five in the L1 (Lille, Bordeaux, Boulogne, Monaco and Montpellier).
No mistakes against the team from the north?
The scen has been set before the match away to Lille which will go ahead without Michel Bastos, deprived of a reunion with his former team because of suspension. An encounter which marks the reutrn of OL to the Stadium de Villeneuve d’Ascq after two years of « Lille-Lyon » at the Stade de France in front of 80 000 spectators. The surroundings will not be as luxurious on Sunday, even if the opposition will be difficult: if Rudy Garcia’s side are only in 13th place, they come into this match on the back of a big win 4-0 against Valencienne last week. Since then, Lille had a European match against Valencia on Wednesday (a 3-1 defeat). So, and for once, it is OL who have had the advantage in as far as preparation for the match is concerned.
Tjhis is the chance for OL to remind the people from the north what they can do: Puel’s players have so far beaten Valenciennes and Lens… While waiting for Boulogne to show up at Gerland in 10 days time, OL would be well inspired to bring back all three points from Lille … In order to get back on track.
