Solid and applied, OL were victorious 2-0 against Toulouse. This success propulses Lyon onto the podium of the Ligue 1.
Right from the kick-off both teams showed their desire to carry the game forward. Machado was the first to try his luck but his shot from far was no worry to Hugo Lloris. The Olympians, meanwhile, hit the mark with their first chance. Bastos broke down the right flank before trying his luck from a tight angle. Valverde pushed the ball away but Lisandro got in front of his defender to catapult the ball into the back the net (5’). Machado tried to bring his team back on track by being very available in attack. Bastos failed to double the lead from a free kick from distance but his left foot missile finished up on the post (19’). Very much in view, Bastos struck again on goal, forcing Valverde to pick up the ball at the second attempt (26’). The game became more balanced, Lyon then made the break with a great pass from Källström for Gomis who withstood a return from the defender before scoring with a left foot effort (35’). Mr. Piccirillo whistled half-time with this net benefit to OL.
A few minutes after the break, Anthony Réveillère, picked up a knock to the calf, and was forced to leave his place to Lamine Gassama. Following an action including a magnificent one-two between Lisandro and Gomis, the Argentinean narrowly missed the frame with his volley (63’). Having just entered the match in place of Gomis, Briand missed the target when he was ideally placed in the penalty area (66’). The Olympians began to unfold their game on the pitch at the Stade Gerland and created many opportunities. In sparkling form, Kim Kallstrom tried a lob from almost 40 yards that Valverde jsut managed to push away. This success propelled the Olympians onto the podium of the Ligue 1 for the first time this season.
