Monaco is a special game for Jérémy Clément. The Olympique Lyonnais midfielder marked his visit to the principality last year with his first Ligue 1 goal: A header which salvaged a thrilling draw.
It’s still one of the highlights of my career. Of course there was winning the league, but personally that was the highlight of my life as a footballer.
What do you remember of that goal?
I remember it was almost full-time. Juninho hit the free-kick and I escaped the marking to head home the winning goal. It was so important because we were losing 1-0 and it arrived right on time because the referee blew for full-time immediately. That goal also helped me become part of the squad.
How will OL approach this matchagainst Monaco?
We mustn’t change our good habits. There are three big games coming up in Monaco, Bordeaux and Lens, opponents who are fighting for the top spots in the league. Monaco have recruited well during the mercato with the arrival of the Italian strikers Christian Vieri and Marco Di Vaio. It’s not going to be easy to go and get a result there.
Do you think you might see some more pitch time wih the suspension to Mahamadou Diarra.
It’s up to the coach to decide. There’ still a lot of competition in the midfield with Benoït Tiago and Juninho. Of course I hope to play, because since the start of the year I haven’t seen that much action. But the most important thing is the results of the team and that we play well on Sunday.
