L1 round 38 and final game

What a final day! Each game has an outcome on the title...relegation...or for the different European quallifications...

10 important matches are to be played this weekend. Lots of people will be paying close attention to certain games, seeing how results are going and what to do in consequence. 20 teams are coming up to the finishing line. Metz, Strasbourg, Auxerre, Sochaux, Valenciennes and Monaco are not directly concerned as the first two are already relegated and the 4 others have nothing to fear or to play for. For the 14 other teams, it’s a different story.

OL go to Auxerre for a 7th title knowing that there are several ways of them keeping their crown. Bordeaux away to Lens only have one option : a win and the hope that OL lose. Lille play Lorient hoping to keep hold of 5th place. If St-Etienne win, then a victory is indispensable. Lorient are still in with a chance of taking a European spot.

Marseille have to win and hope that Nancy lose or draw in order to get on to the podium and take the place in the Champions League preliminary round from them. A draw could be enough for them if Nancy suffer a heavy defeat at home. Le Mans are still on course for an Intertoto place. Rennes can still make the UEFA Cup… as long as they beat Nancy without St-Etienne or Lille winning their respective games.

Nice can still make the Intertoto. PSG will be playng for their survival away to Sochaux. A victory and they are safe. However even a draw or a defeat could keep the Parisians up depending on the results of the games of Toulouse and Lens. Toulouse have a good chance of staying up if they beat Valenciennes, as they have a better goal difference than Lens, unless Lens absolutely hammer Bordeaux. A draw, or evn a defeat would be enough for Elie Baup’s team if Lens do not win. Lens have to win in order to have a chance of staying up, but even then they would not be sure as the outcome would be dependant on the results of their rivals.

Saint-Etienne have a good chance of retaking 5th place if they manage to beat Monaco at home. A draw would be enough if Lille lost « by a normal scoreline ».
