League 1: Match 10

Published on the 24 October 2008 à 08:02 by R.B

Match 10 in the League. The big match of the weekend being the OM – PSG "derby" … At the bottom end of the table, Le Havre are at home to Valenciennes…

The Normans of Le Havre put an end to their run of defeats with their draw against Sochaux ; Valenciennes on the other hand conceded their 4 defeat in a row against OM. 2 points separate two sides in need of assurance. Lorient are not doing well at all: 1 victory, 3 draws and 5 defeats. Their defence is leaking goals and the attack not performing! Saïfi is injured, Vahirua returns to the squad. Nantes have taken 6 of their 10 points in the last two games and are now out of the relegation zone. They could make it three wins in three.

Lille continued their good run against Lyon, playing well, and are quite close to the podium. Caen were pegged back by Grenoble. Dumas’s men will be counting on their attacking flair to bring something home from this trip up north. Rennes are in good form at the moment and can count on their solid defence. Le Mans are still defying the critics. They are only three points behind the league leaders and are scoring freely. Should be an interesting game.

Nice were victorious Monaco. Have they kick-started their season after a poor period? Bordeaux are still around and are flying after their morale boosting win in the Champions League. Nice can draw level with Bordeaux if they are victorious. St-Etienne – Grenoble? A derby between a St-Etienne side who just won their UEFA Cup game and a newly promoted Grenoble side who have been successful on their travels, having taken momre points away than at home; 8 points as opposed to 6. One question subsides: will their respective forward lines wake up? They are, at the moment, amongst the weakest in the League.

Toulouse lost to Bordeaux, but are still well placed in the standings. Monaco were defeated by Nice and are in worrying form. Gignac, the Toulouse striker, has scored nearly as many goals (5) as the entire Monaco attack (6)! Nancy are still in the lower reaches of the table. After convincing performances in the UEFA Cup, the time has come for a revolt in the League. Sochaux remain the only side in the League without a victory to their name! This cannot continue if they do not want to find themselves in a critical situation …

Finally, THE game of the weekend … the Classico between an OM side who have disappointed in the Champions League, but unbeaten in the League only 1 point behind OL, and a PSG that neglected their UEFA Cup game, preferring to concentrate on the game against their enemies in Marseille. The League’s best attack are up against it’s strongest defence.
