Les Bleus bounced back on Wednesday night at the Stade Bonal in Sochaux, defeating the Faroe Islands 5-0. Saha, Henry, Anelka and Trézéguet, twice, were the scorers.
With Coupet and Abidal unavailable, two Lyon players were in the starting XI. On the left wing, Florent Malouda earned his 24th cap while Jérémy Toulalan made his first appearance in the famous blue shirt. For his first ever performance with the national team, the former Nantes midfielder had a quality game. A hive of activity in the centre of the park, and especially going forward, he had three shots at goal and made a great impression.
François Clerc also made his first appearance for the senior team, replacing Willy Sagnol in the 78th minute.
Florent Malouda was involved in the last three goals for Les Bleus. In the 76th minute, he took the corner that Trézéguet nodded on for Anelka to score. A minute later he released Sagnol, whose cross found Trézéguet in the box (77’). And then his powerful shot was spilled by the Faroe’s’keeper into the path of the Juve striker to add the fifth (84’).
Thanks to that success, Raymond Domenech’s side now have nine points from their four games and are top of Group B, level with Scotland, who lost 2-0 to the Ukraine.

In Group F, Sweden registered their fourth win, defeating Iceland 2-1. The Swedes are runaway leaders with a five point lead over Denmark and Northern Ireland. Kim Källström played the whole match, and equalised in the eighth minute after Iceland had taken a sixth minute lead, it was his sixth goal in 43 internationals.

In Poland, Tiago’s Portugal lost 2-1. The semi-finalists from the World Cup have a real battle on their hands to qualify from Group A where they are currently fifth. Tiago played the entire second half.

In Herzliya, Les Espoirs lost 1-0 to a stopage time goal. René Girard’s side will not be going to Euro 2007 or the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Jérémy Berthod started the match at left-back while Karim Benzema was introduced in the 74th minute.

[IMG41390#L]Müller injured
In Innsbruck, Austria defeated Switzerland 2-1, the first defeat of 2006 for Köbi Kuhn’s men. Very bad news for OL: Patrick Müller was taken to hospital, with a dislocated shoulder just before half-time.
