Ligue 1: Week 27

Published on the 10 March 2011 à 08:20 by R.B

The big match of the weekend will be played out between Rennes and OM...without forgetting the derby of the North and a PSG-Montpellier...

Can OM bounce back in Brittany against the league's best defence? Nothing is less obvious. Rennes are still in the race for the title and have the opportunity to build up the gap over Marseille. OM know they need a positive result before the reception of PSG. In the North, Lille receive their neighbours Valenciennes. It's time to drive home the nail after the success at the Stade Vélodrome against a team that is looking to rapidly ensure their safety. After the slap against Lyon, Arles-Avignon are at home to Christian Gourcuff’s Lorient. A priori, Lorient can win, but you never know ... Sochaux will want to build on their success at Toulouse against a Lyon side who have no real alternative in their title race.

Lens need points to assure their safety. For now, the first team outside the relegation zone is four points ahead. A win is imperative to stay in the race to avoid relegation. What does Toulouse think about that, they who come into the game on the back of a home defeat to Sochaux? Nancy - Caen? The team from the Lorraine is 3 points out of the relegation zone. The Normans have put a bit of distance between themselves and this zone. Nancy would do well to win ... Saint-Etienne are on a run of 4 defeats in a row and have lost almost all ambition of reaching a European place. It remains for them to get back on track in order to avoid any hassle. Brest received a lesson at home against Bordeaux. The Bretons have the same number of points as Saint-Etienne.

Nice - AJA? A match between two teams who would like to breathe a little easier. Auxerre finally won last weekend after a long period without a victory. Nice play at home for the second match in a row. After the 0-0 draw against Lens, a victory is expected. Otherwise beware of worries ... Bordeaux have managed two wins in a row scoring 3 goals in both encounters. Have things kicked off again for Bordeaux? They have the opportunity to confirm by receiving a Monaco side still in the relegation zone and who have stagnated by managing only draws, 14 so far. Finally PSG must win against Montpellier. A win to stay in contact with the title chasers, a win to push Montpellier further away, a Montpellier side who follow them just 6 points behind at the moment.
