Ligue 1: Week 9

Published on the 15 October 2010 à 10:12 by R.B

Domestic competition returns this week-end after the international break...the unbeaten leaders Rennes head to Lens...second placed Saint-Etienne travel to Nice...Can the bottom club Arles-Avignon finally open up their points total away to Brest in Britanny?

The championship resumes after the second international break of the season. It will now go non-stop until the end of the first round of matches. Will this latest break change the trend of the first 8 matches? Let us not forget also that in the wake of this Week 9, the European clubs will have midweek matches. The pace will accelerate seriously for OL, OM, AJA, LOSC, PSG. Rennes and Saint-Etienne may take the opportunity to continue their run at the top of L1. The Bretons travel to Lens who are in the relegation zone. Saint-Etienne head to Nice, who have slowed down after good start to the season.

Can Arles-Avignon hope of bringing back something positive from their trip to Brest, the surprising fifth placed side? This seems complicated for a team that had better pick up points quickly to avoid the inevitable gap between them and 17th place. Sochaux in excellent home form, have still not brought any points back from their travels. Is the Stade de la Mosson the right place to do it?

Also on the programme is an interesting TFC - PSG. As for Nancy, unbeaten away from home, can they make up for their fourth defeat at home at the Stade Vélodrome? Not an easy task against an OM side in need of points to catch up to the podium. Finally, there is Lorient - VA and AJA - Bordeaux, not to mention the clash between OL and Lille.

Lens – Rennes

Nice – ASSE

Brest – Arles-Avignon

OM – Nancy

Montpellier – Sochaux

AJA – Bordeaux

Caen – ASM

Lorient - VA
