In football everything moves very quickly. We already saw ourselves playing Real Madrid in Seville next Sunday in a dream final for the Peace Cup, but here were are eliminated from the first round of the competition.
A draw against Besiktas (1-1) followed by a 2-0 defeat on Monday evening at the hands of Porto put an end to our hopes of conserving the Peace Cup title.
On Monday evening, Porto were stronger with the « incredible » Hulk who did so much damage to us. Lyon were heavy legged in this second match in two days against the freshness and pace of the Portuguese, the miracle did not happen.
From the commentary box I did, however, see some good play. The direct corner from Michel Bastos which could have changed the course of the match. I was really impressed by the performance of Cris, the defender was virtually unplayable.
So the moment has come to pack up and go home, with some regrets obviously, even if OL came to Spain in order to continue their pre-season preparation with some high level matches. Against the Champions of Turkey and Portugal, Claude Puel’s side have had a foretaste of the Champions League. If OL have prematurely quit the Peace Cup, the most important thing remains the first L1 match on the 8th of August against Le Mans.
