More disappointment

Lyon's chances of a top three finish took another blow on Saturday as they went down 2-0 to Nancy on the artificial pitch at the Stade Marcel-Picot...

OL were back on the pitch, away to Nancy this time, just a week after their epic encounter with PSG a week earlier and Rémi Garde went with an identical starting XI: Lloris, Réveillère, Cris, B.Koné, Cissokho, Gonalons, Källström, Briand, Bastos, Lisandro, Gomis.
Garde's charges took control of the match early, but lacked the necessary speed of movement to destabilise a solid Nancy defence. OL's first shot of the match came in the 20th minute as Bafé Gomis chipped his ball high over the mark. Les Nancéens had their own moments, starting with ex-OL academy member Karaboué, who failed to hit the target (31'). Mollo then went close with a close-range header that Hugo Lloris somehow kept out with another sensational save (35'). Michel Bastos then had a presentable chance, getting on the end of Lisandro's screwed shot, but he sent it high and wide. It was a dour first half from both sides that ended scoreless...

Rémi Garde's side started the second half with a renewed sense of urgency, but it was Niculae who sent a scare through the OL ranks with a shot from 20m out that Hugo Lloris saved comfortably. Ederson replaced Bastos but it was the ASNL players that became increasingly dangerous. Puygrenier gave his side the lead with a thumping header from a corner (66'). Fernandez's side then closed the game out on the counterattack. Bakar toyed with the OL defence before curling home a magnificent effort with the left foot (74'). Les Gones were stunned. Bako Koné headed just centimetres wide of Ndy Assembe's top corner (86') and the Nancy 'keeper was called into action again to deny Ederson's curler. OL fans were expecting a big performance from their side but will have to wait another week to get back to winning ways...
