Never safe,but...

Since the start of the season, OL have always have trouble finishing off matches without putting themselves in danger...This was once again the case against Nice...Match retour...

This time, we thought that there would be no problems when Mr. Jaffredo whistled a penalty kick for Lyon in the 40th minute when they were already 1-0 up against Nice who were not really convincing. Unfortunately, Michel Bastos did not double the lead and OL could not or were unable to change the score in their favor, remaining under the threat of the side from the Riviera, despite seven clear chances, despite 22 attempts to 1! Nice’s effort coming in the 89th minute...

The inability to make their way to safety? Being able to "kill a game"? This phenomenon is not new. How many times has it already happened? Often, too often ... we think back to the encounter in Nancy ... or Sochaux, Hapoel, Schalke 04, Brest, VA ... One can almost say that the seven-time champions of France have always managed to gain positive results with a, more or less, scare. An exception? The 2-0 victory against Benfica. As for the rest...it has been complicated, whether the danger was palpable or not. We have also not forgotten the defeats caused by lack of realism as was the case against ASSE and PSG...

Trouble, too, in being present towards the end of matches as evidenced by the lack of goals scored beyond the 75th minute of play in the league (3 goals in the Champions League), which was once one of the strengths of OL.

Trouble also in finishing off certain matches, even when Hugo Lloris is reduced to unemployment. On Sunday night, the international goalkeeper experienced his quietest of the season.

Never safe, but in an upward spiral over the last 6 encounters in the L1 with 14 points taken from 18 possible... the rhythm of a possible future champion (2.33 points per game) if this pace is confirmed. Auxerre have taken 13 during the same period ... A number? The leaders Brest have 22 points from 13 matches, or 1.7 points per game ... a snail’s pace which explains the tightness of the table.

OL have virtually erased their bad, points wise, start to the season with their results and thanks to their opponents... by not yet fully mastering their subject. This suggests, hopefully, a great hope for the rest of the domestic season.
