first team / LOSC - OL

Nightmare ending to a great run…

Despite some mitigating circumstances at kick-off, OL had a terrible match and had two men sent off… OL missed a chance to break into the top three… and the impending clash with PSG is looking extremely complicated…

FIRST HALF

The sides started the match in the same formation (4-2-3-1). Benzia tested Lopes early with a header from a Morgan Amalfitano cross. A focused LOSC side took control of the game early, playing high up the pitch. Les Dogues dominated, obtained corners… but there was no danger in the first 15 minutes for OL. The match got a bit messy… and Lille took the lead thanks to Boufal's lucky free-kick. Cornet put together a sweet move but fired wide in the 33rd minute - OL's first shot of the match. Ghezzal went down in the area but no penalty was called… Lopes denied Bauthéac at the base of his right-hand post. OL lacked balance and were subjected to waves of Lille attacks. It was a complicated first half for Samuel Umtiti and his teammates, trailing despite Lacazette's chance jus before the half-time whistle.

SECOND HALF

OL continued to struggle early in the second half. Balmont replaced Amalfitano and LOSC shifted to a 4-3-3 formation. Jallet was sent off for a second yellow! Ghezzal tested Enyeama. Darder came on for Ghezzal. The yellow cards were flying thick and fast! OL pushed, with Perrin and Morel trying their luck, and dominated the end of the match. Lacazette was denied by Enyeama. Labidi replaced Ferri. Grenier was also sent off for a second yellow, the midfielder inadvertently bloodying the nose of Balmont. OL's wining run came to an end.

SUMMARY

Handicapped by the absences of Gonalons and Tolisso - as well as the red cards for Jallet and Grenier - OL had a rough night, missing the chance to break into the top three and letting Monaco slip away towards a possible second-placed finish. It was a tough night for OL even though Lopes and his teammates were never outplayed by Les Dogues. A really terrible night for OL… far from what was expected, on every level.
