October... almost perfect

Published on the 31 December 2008 à 09:00 by BV

OL’s October was almost perfect: 5 wins and just one defeat. But this defeat came at the worst time: for the visit of Rangers in the Champions League. IN the league, OL was all guns blazing.

October couldn’t have started in a worse way. On the 2nd, Rangers came to teach OL a lesson at home (0-3) for match day 2. An unpolished OL hit the post 3 times… qualification was slipping away from them…

On the 6th, Fred returned to the squad after 5 months out through injury.

On the 7th, OL outclassed Bordeaux in the Gironde (1-3). Cleber Anderson, Benzema and Källström scored for a win that really lifted OL spirits.

On the 11th, Raymond Domenech caused a sensation by caling Hatem Ben Arfa up for national team duty against Faroe Islands and Lithuania. On the 13th, ... Hatem Ben Arfa scored against the Faroe Islands… and so did Karim Benzema.

On the 13th toujours, Fred scored in the CFA against Nancy.

On the 20th, OL began a run of 4 wins in 11 days, beating Monaco at Gerland (3-1). Juninho, Réveillère and Benzema all scored.

On the 23rd, OL brought a precious victory back from Stuttgart (0-2) thanks to Fabio Santos and Karim Benzema.

On the 28th, OL beat PSG at the Parc des Princes. Ben Arfa scored a brace and Sidney Govou also got on the score sheet.

On the 31st, it was Caen’s turn, in the Coupe de la Ligue, to submit to the Lyonnais. Keita, Bodmer and Benzema made sure of OL’s passage through to the quarter-finals of the competition.
