Olympique Lyonnais confirm that they have sent medical certificates to the French Football Federation (FFF) – one from Professor Moyen* who operated on Eric Abidal and the second from Jean-Jacques Amprino – warning of the risks the player will be taking if he plays a fourth match in 12 day

A meeting with Gérard Houllier, Doctor Jean-Jacques Amprino and Eric Abidal established a united stance in the interests of the player, the France team and the club, his employer.
Doctor Jean-Jacques Amprino also consulted Doctor Jean-Pierre Paclet, to confirm the risks the player would be taking, particularly of a muscular nature.

This situation is of the utmost concern to OL who had, before the match played in the Antilles, informed the FFF, orally and without medical certificates, of the risks associated with Eric Abidal’s participation in that match, without any notice being taken by the FFF, or the player.
OL hopes, therefore, that this time the player will not participate in the match itself, and that the FFF will follow the example of the Portuguese federation who exempted Tiago from this week’s friendly match so that he could fully recover from an injury suffered last Saturday.

OL also hopes that Eric Abidal is not subjected to pressures inciting his participation in the match with an eye on the World Cup.

*“…Eric Abidal needs to recuperate and improve his physical performance levels. To play a proposed fourth match in 12 days represents a risk, particularly on a muscular level, that does not appear to me advisable, or reasonable. Our interests are that the player finishes the regular season well and be in top form should he have the honour of representing France at the World Cup.”
