OL in the league before Europe

Published on the 15 February 2007 à 10:05 by R.B

February means European competition again for OL. And OL usually does rather well in its league matches before Champions League ties…

The last league defeat before a European tie? March 4 2005 at Caen (1-0) before the visit of Werder Bremen. That’s 18 league games played since for 16 wins and 2 draws. 12 home games (11 wins and 1 draw) and 6 away games (5 wins and 1 draw).

Since Gérard Houllier has been OL manager, the team has a record of 15 wins and 1 draw. He has always won on the road before a European tie (5 times).

The exact figures since the defeat at Caen (4/3/2005):

2004-2005:

5 April: OL 1 Lens 0
13 April: Nantes 2 OL 2

2005-2006

13 Sept: OL 2 Monaco 1
28 Sept: Nantes 0 OL 1
19 Oct: OL 3 Ajaccio 2

Remember that OL has already played Lille this season before a European match (in Bucharest). And they will face St-Etienne before the return leg against Rome just as they did before the trip to Kiev.
