OL handed Ajaccio the stick with which to beat them... they lost when they had the potential to claim all three points... It was very disappointing...
Ajaccio needed the points to climb out of the relegation zone and build a little confidence after six matches without a win. OL were looking for the points to build on their win over Nantes and stay in contact with the leaders. Both sides were missing players... OL came into the game boasting the best attack in the land and a win was on the cards... As expected, Fofana came in for the injured Dabo, but Rémi Garde stuck with the rest of his starting XI from the last game.
A new-look Ajaccio side looked to get forward at every opportunity while OL's game was littered with errors. Grenier fired of the first shot in anger with a free-kick. Gomis then called Ochoa into action with a fierce strike. It was the first real chance of the match. OL played the game at their own speed. But then from a fabulous Cavalli opening, Arrache opened the scoring. Olympique Lyonnais was guilty of losing concentration!
OL monopolised possession and the rhythm accelerated... but still too many mistakes... Dielna forced Lopes into an important stop from long range. Each side played to their strengths. It was a tight and even affair. Diarra was causing problems down his flank. Mostefa forced Lopes into action just before the half-time break. The Corsican side led at the break. OL needed to do more...
The second half started with Ochoa making a miraculous save to deny another Grenier free-kick. The locals responded with more good play down the left wing. Another Grenier set piece failed to hit the target. OL applied plenty of pressure. Ajaccio held on until Malbranque scored after a good pass from Lacazette. Lacazette was excellent all match.
OL pushed hard for a winner but Ajaccio remained dangerous on the counter. From another through ball, the substitute Camarabeat the offside trap before beating Lopes! Incredible… Plea replaced Briand and Fékir came on for Malbranque as OL switched to 4-4-2. Ravanelli made changes to hold onto the result.
Without ever hitting the heights, the final result remained in doubt until the final whistle. Could OL find an equaliser? Fékir's cross cause panic in the ACA box, before Clément Grenier tried his luck with another dead-ball situation... in vain. Ochoa then produced another breathtaking save, with the help of his upright, to deny Grenier once more. The Mexican goalkeeper held firm until the end, while OL's evening finished on a sour note with Lacazette sent off...
