Lyon ensured the essential in defeating one of their opponents for the title, this Sunday at the Stade de Gerland.
With only a 3 point lead on their opponents of the day, OL’s women were under pressure before the start of the encounter. After a tight opening quarter of an hour, Lara Dickenmann had the first opportunity. Following a scramble in the Montpellier area, the Swiss saw her shot deflected by a defender out for a corner (16’). Ten minutes later, a header from Camille Abily following an Aurelie Kaci cross, crashed into the crossbar of Laetitia Philippe (25’). Despite another headed attempt from Wendie Renard (33’), the two teams went in level at half time.
At the break, Patrice Lair brought on Louisa Nécib for Lara Dickenmann. The midfielder procured the first two occasions, but her strikes went over the bar (59’, 63’). Lyon would eventually find the gap with twenty minutes to go before the final whistle. Sonia Bompastor played in a perfect ball which dropped onto the head of Lotta Schelin, who sent the ball into the back of the net (1-0, 71’). OL’s women managed the end of the game, depriving their opponents of the ball to increase their lead in the championship, with now 6 points more than Montpellier.
