OL's record against Dutch opposition

This Wednesday OL play their opening match in Group D against Ajax Amsterdam, a ninth European clash against Dutch opposition in OL's history...

Wednesday's clash is OL's 187th European match, the 107th in the Champions League, and the ninth against a Dutch club in Europe's premier club competition. OL has played PSV Eindhoven four times (2 draws and 2 wins for one quarter-final elimination and one round of 16 qualification), Heerenveen twice (2 wins) and Ajax twice (2 defeats).  The Ajax and Heerenveen ties both came in the group phase.

In OL's two losses to Ajax, the goalscorers were Ibrahimovic 2, Pienaar and Van der Vaart. Sonny Anderson scored a superb goal in Amsterdam and saw a perfectly good goal ruled out in the return leg at the Stade Gerland. That was back in the 2002-03 season and Ajax went on to qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition while OL headed for the Uefa Cup and were ultimately eliminated in the Rd-of-32 by Turkish outfit Denizlispor… in what most observers considered a big upset!
