Just three days before the derby, Patrick Müller discusses this special match, but also the passion of the supporters and the welcome that will be awaiting the quintuple champions of France.
Absolutely, especially after our performance against Monaco. After a defeat, the team always wants to bounce back. This derby comes at just the right time. We know that there’s a big rivalry between the two teams and it’s going to be a great match. We’ll have to be at more than 100% to win and make our supporters happy because they deserve it. In terms of the season, it would be good to finish on a high note by winning the derby.
You have already played in several derbies. Is it really a special match?
I haven’t played in a lot but I know it’s a special moment. I remember my first derby when we drew at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard and it was also the first match for Eddy (Edmilson). We got a draw but it was a really close call! It’s always amazing to play in such matches.
It’s also the first match Ol will play at the Stade Gerland since winning the title. There’s a risk you will receive a heroes welcome...
It’s exactly that which we need to justify – the supporters of this city, of this whole region and confirm that we are the champions. We saw the passion of our fans at training yesterday. There were lots of people watching and it was a real party atmosphere. We can feel that everyone wants to win this derby.
