Preseason starts on Monday!

Published on the 29 June 2012 à 09:40 by R.B

Next Monday, the Olympique Lyonnais players will be back at the club training complex, Tola Vologe and two days later they'll be heading into camp at Tignes…

Pirlo's Italians will play Spain in the final of Euro 2012... Will Laurent Blanc stay as head coach of Les Bleus...? Will Deschamps be staying at OM... Lemaitre won another stunning gold a the European athletics championships... Nadal came unstuck at Wimbledon... the 99th Tour de France is about to start... the London Olympics are just around the corner... It's late June which means most of France is preparing to head of on holidays...

But France's holidays means the start of preseason training for the country's football teams who have a season to prepare and the club's know that some players will be doing preseason at one club before moving on to play somewhere else... other players, such as the internationals, may have a few extra days break and will have to do extra sessions to catch up... It's difficult for the clubs, but they've done it all before...

In Ligue 1, Sporting Bastia, Stade Brestois, Evian TG, FC Lorient, Stade de Reims, ASSE, FCSM, TFC, ESTAC and VAFC are already back training…  On Monday, they'll be joined by AC Ajaccio, Girondins de Bordeaux, LOSC, OM, MHSC, ASNL, OGCN, PSG, Stade Rennais and OL. Training at the club complex, training camps and warm-up matches… it's a well-worn path to prepare for a 2012-13 season that starts with the Trophée des Champions on 28 July in New York betwseen MHSC and OL. We also know that differing ambition and different fixture lists mean club will prepare in their own special way. Certain will be looking to hit the ground running while others will prepare for later peaks in a marathon...

OL will be playing their 63rd season, a 54th in France's top flight (24th in a row in L1). While the internationals Réveillère, Källström and Lloris won't be there for the start of preseason training, Cris and Vercoutre will be. For Vercoutre, it will be a tenth preseason with Lyon; Cris' ninth. For others it will be their first with OL, such as Koné and Dabo.

After just two days at Lyon, Rémi Garde's men will return to Tignes. The first time OL travelled to the alpine resort was back on the eve of the 1997-98 campaign. Every year since then, apart from July 2011 (camp in Austria), the seven-times French champion has always returned to place chosen by Robert Duverne for preseason training. This year will be the 15th time! The camp will be followed up with a friendly game in Grenoble on Friday 13 July against Athletic Bilbao.
