Reactions after the match between Le Mans and OL.

Gérard Houllier : This 14th victory of the season was one of mastery. Mastery of the match but also of play and rhythm. Tonight, we produced remarkable passages of play as much in the first half as the second. Against an excellent Le Mans team, we were able to produce a very good result, which is a good sign. Tonight we took a huge step towards the title.

Yohann Pelé : We fought well tonight right until the end of the game. In terms of our spirit and our play, it was good. Though our record isn’t so good, in the game we are fine. I’m sure it will come.

Grégory Coupet : Gérard Houllier told us that this particular match was critical in our season. Up to the end of 2006, every point we secure makes for an easier 2007. We knew it would be tough here because the Le Mans team is well-established. Not to concede a goal here is very satisfying.

Jean-Michel Aulas : I am very happy with the match and its quality. It’s always difficult to win away from home, especially considering Le Mans hadn’t lost at home so far this season.
We stayed confident right to the end of the match. « Greg » (Coupet) didn’t have many tough saves to make. Le Mans didn’t have the necessary force to trouble us. They changed tactics so they could press higher up the field and pressure the Lyon defence, but we defended well. Altogether, Olympique Lyonnais created many great chances.
Once again, our team kept a clean sheet through retaining possession and playing its own game. Perhaps it’s a cliché about winning away from home, but to win against a Le Mans outfit with an unbeaten home record takes a really good performance.
Gérard Houllier? A new record for him. We told him it bothered us that he held the record from his time in Paris, and he has proven very kind, bringing the record to Lyon.

Cris : It was a tough match against quality opposition. Even if we didn’t win how we wanted to, we still return to Lyon tonight with the three points, which is what we came for. We stayed solid throughout the match, the whole team defended, which led to our third successive clean sheet in the league.

Juninho : Another tough match but nonetheless we created some terrific chances. We suffered in the last 15 minutes but that’s understandable as a team losing at home gives its all to even the score. We’re all very happy to head home with a victory. We will keep working. We scored tonight from a set piece, and if you look at it, league-topping teams from around Europe score 30% of their goals from set pieces. They are a supplementary force. And the defence? Not conceding is everything. We do our best in the centre and in attack to make things easy for our defense. That way, the whole team wins.
