French clubs will have to wait a longer before getting their Africans back. Their two biggest providers, Senegal and the Cote d'Ivoire, are continuing on their merry way at the CAN 2006.

First into the semi-finals, Lamine Diatta's Senegal didn't have it easy against Guinea, the surprise of this 25th African Cup of Nations. Slow and unable to really trouble their opponents for the first hour, the Senegalese finally prevailed with three late goals to Papa Bouba Diop (61'), Niang (83') et Camara (93'), finally wearing down the Guinean defence. After 270 minutes of group football, Guinea had only conceded one goal (v Zambia). It got even harder for Senegal when Kaba Diawara capitalised on an error from Lille 'keeper Tony Sylva (25'). In stoppage time, Pascal Feindouno added some more respectability to the scoreline (94'). On Tuesday, at 18:00,Senegal will now face Egypt, after the host nation defeated the DR Congo 4-1.
In the other quarter-finals, Nigeria defeated Tunisa on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 draw after extra-time.
While Didier Drogba slotted hom the winning penalty after Samuel Eto'o had blasted the preceeding effort over the bar (12-11, after the match ended 1-1).
