Stay in the hunt

Playing host to Dinamo Zagreb this Tuesday, OL have the chance to build on the solid point they earned away to Ajax Amsterdam on Match Day 1 of the Champions League...

No offence to Dinamo Zagreb, but it's hard to imagine OL picking up anything but all three home points if the co-Ligue 1 leaders have serious ambitions of qualifying for the last-16 of the Champions League for the ninth year in a row. Obviously Dejan Lovren drew a fairly flattering picture of his former club, coached by Jurcic, who took part in the 1998 World Cup with Croatia. The defending Croatian champions are not to be underestimated, as their route to the group stages confirms. They have come through three qualifying rounds. For their first match in Group D, they lost narrowly, 1-0, at home to Real Madrid.

They have plenty of young, talented players such as Kovacic, Badelj… and experience too, with Croatian internationals such as Simunic and foreigners such as the Brazilien Sammir, and Portugal's Tonel… Dinamo are top of the table in Croatia after nine games with eight wins and a draw...

OL will need to be careful that everyone predicted to finish fourth in the group. OL are full of confidence after their 3-1 win over Bordeaux on the weekend. Real Madrid are the overwhelming favourite to top the group and the battle for second will be between Ajax and Lyon, so there's no room for error at home to Dinamo!

Les Lyonnais can build on their good point earned in Amsterdam. Rémi Garde should rely on a similar starting XI to the one that disposed of Bordeaux. Lloris will return from suspension between the posts and Briand could be back on the right flank at the expense of Lacazette.

It's the chance to score some points in this mini-championship… and celebrate in style, the club's 100th Champions League match; an adventure that started back in September 2000 against Heerenveen...
