Thanks to a last minute Fredrik Ljungberg goal, Sweden registered a priceless 1-0 win over Paraguay on Thursday. The result sees the South Americans eliminated while Sweden are almost assured of a second round berth ahead of their final group match against England.
Used as a late substitute in Sweden’s opening match against Trinidad and Tobago, Kim Kallström started Thursday’s game in the centre of midfield. Playing just behind the strikers, Larsson and Ibrahimovic, the new Lyon recruit had a very good game.
He was especially impressive during a blistering opening half-hour, clearly dominated by Lars Lagerbäck’s squad. Playing a pivotal role between defence and attack, Kallström took four shots at goal (5’, 9’, 18’ & 46’) but was unable to beat the inspired Paraguayan ‘keeper. In the 87th minute he was replaced by Johan Elmander.
Group B results:
England – Trinidad-and-Tobago: 2 – 0
