The OL players celebrated in style their fourth consecutive title of French champions, in Montigny and then at a club in Lyon.
As was expected there were no surprises yesterday afternoon in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, where OL Women won their fourth consecutive title. Away to the newly relegated side, OL wrapped the match up in the first fifteen minutes (3-0), calmly managing the match from then on (5-0).
At the final whistle, Farid Benstiti and his players got together on the pitch to sing the traditional: « We are the champions, we are the champions… » The ringleader Katia took up the baton, grabbing a megaphone from a Montigny supporter: “OL supporters, it’s time to start singing, encourage our beloved team, with us OL will win …” The President Jean-Michel Aulas was also serenaded, delighted with the success of his players but already preparing for the future: “There will be changes at all levels”, of course, with the ambition of winning the Champions League.
In the meantime, directors, staff, players, friends and family all met up in a famous club in Lyon. The players received their trophy from the President of the Rhône-Alpes league, Bernard Barbet. Jean-Michel Aulas and Paul Piemontese (President OL Women) received a signed and framed photograph from the players, all under the eye of OL’s new recruit Jimmy Briand: “I arrived in Lyon today, I was invited to this pleasant event, I am happy to be able to congratulate the players as I met a lot of them during my time at Clairefontaine. I hope that I will experience as many emotions with the men’s team as they have at OL”. Without the presence of the French international, the party carried on long into the night …
