Courted by Manchester United, the young full back chose OL, who reached an agreement with Lens. He has been loaned by Lens but OL have an option to buy the player outright.

At 17 years of age, Thimothée Kolodziecziak had a youth contract with Lens. Closely followed by Manchester United and Olympique Lyonnais, the young international has chosen OL with whom an agreement has been reached. He has been loaned out by Lens with an option to buy. Reactions...

How are you dealing with the situation at the moment?
It’s a big thing for me but I am staying calm. I know I have a lot of work to do. The conditions here are perfect for me, so I have to prove that I can be a part of this squad. I know what I have to do. Work, work and work some more.

You are now the back-up for a World Cup winner, Fabio Grosso. How does that feel?
It’s amazing. I’m hoping to learn a lot from him and that he will be able to help me try and reach his level. My objective is to progress, to train with the pro group and to finish off learning my trade in the best possible circumstances. One of my objectives for the season is to try and get some playing time with the first team.

Why come to OL?
It was a sporting question, even if I have spent 10 great years at Lens. On a personal and sporting level I preferred to come here. Lyon wanted me more than Manchester United and immediately showed their confidence in me. The discussions with Manchester were drawn out but with Lyon everything went very quickly.

Claude Puel speaking about Thimothée Kolodziecziak :
"OL had a habit of doubling each post with older players but I think it’s just as good to bring in young players with great potential. Our goal is to achieve the objectives that we have set ourselves but also to train the younger players so that they will be capable of picking up the relay and deal with the challenges faced by Olympique Lyonnais.
He’s a big lad, 1m83, who can run quickly and has good endurance. He is technically very good, especially his passing, and participates a lot down the wing."
