To be taken seriously...

Before a league match and a European encounter for both sides, it is time for the Coupe de la Ligue. OL are at home to the PSG of Grégory Coupet...A great match with a view on the quarter-finals...and on the presidential analysis...

This game is important, even if the Coupe de la Ligue is not something that especially makes the big clubs dream. Let’s leave PSG to their potential concerns associated with the home defeat in the league against Auxerre. OL remain on a poor performance in Avignon against the bottom club in the L1. OL are still badly positioned in 14th place after 10 matches. Under these conditions, how could they let go one of two domestic cups?

OL have no choice. Elimination would really make a mess! Claude Puel will certainly change the face of his team starting with the returns of Vercoutre, Lovren...the absence of Cissokho... There should be other changes to let the players breathe and give some playing time to others. But this amended starting eleven does not signify a lack of ambition.

The arrival of PSG is also an opportunity to see former Lyon players. They are numerous with the presence of Clément, Bodmer, Giuly, Luyindula ... and of course "Greg" Coupet. Last season, injured, he had not played at Gerland. This return was expected, although the setting on Wednesday night will not be as majestic as it deserved. It will certainly be strange for him to keep another goal other than that of OL in this garden which was his for 10 seasons and 6 months. This will bring emotion to those who appreciated him, rubbed shoulders with him during his remarkable seasons at OL where he became the best in France and one of the top players in the brotherhood of goalkeepers. A few months before the end of his career, this is perhaps the last opportunity to see him in action on the pitch at Lyon. Something not to be missed...

The Parisian coach will most likely rotate his squad as well. PSG, like OL, have a busy schedule. In the wake of Wednesday night, Sakho and his teammates will head to Montpellier before receiving Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League.

In the wake of this last 16 match, the President Jean-Michel Aulas has promised to take stock after the defeat to St Etienne and the decisions he will take. Will these decisions be announced after the final whistle or a little later? We'll see ... It should end, hopefully, this period of unrest and allow the club to refind the beautiful colors which a participation in the quarter finals of this competition would certainly bring.
