Still feeling the effects of a huge month of October, Les Lyonnais went down 2-1 away to Sochaux in Ligue 1 Week 13. Once again, it was defending from set pieces which cost the Olympians dearly.
OL were on the road to Sochaux in Week 13 of Ligue 1. It was the final match in a marathon run of seven games in 21 days...
After a good start, Rémi Garde's players conceded the opening goal from Sochaux's very first set piece. Boudebouz's corner wasn't dealt with by the OL defence and was sent into his own goal by Aly Cissokho (9'). Les Gones responded immediately as Bafé Gomis broke down the right and crossed for the head of Alexandre Lacazette who made no mistake (13'). The home side caused Lyon their fair share of problems via livewire Bakambu. Lyon's in-form Jimmy Briand had a great chance to give OL the lead, but his lob flew long (36'). Hugo Lloris then denied Bakambu, one on one. Unfortunately, the was nothing the Lyon 'keeper could do to deny Boudebouz from the penalty spot after a foul by Aly Cissokho (43'). Cris and his teammates looked tired and made too many mistakes in the first half.
Bafé Gomis could have had a penalty at the start of the second half, but Monsieur Vileo, the referee, didn't blow. Despite several opportunities, OL were unable to breakdown Bazdarevic's side. And when Les Gones did find space, Richert was equal to the task, the Sochaux 'keeper winning another duel against Bafé Gomis. Les Lyonnais pushed for a second equaliser, but couldn't make the difference in the final third of the field.
