The much awaited month of September has arrived and OL are raring to go. The Olympians will be sharing their duties between the domestic championship and the Champions League. It was a combination that worked pretty well last year… and then there is the return of Sidney Govou…
OL 2-1 Monaco before OL 3-0 Real
Nantes 0-1 OL before Rosenborg 0-1 OL
OL 3-2 Ajaccio before OL 2-1 Olympiakos
OL 1-0 Sochaux before Olympiakos 1-4 OL
OL 2-1 Troyes before Real 1-1 OL
OL 2-0 PSG before OL 2-1 Rosenborg
OL 3-1 Nantes before PSV 0-1 OL
Ajaccio 1-3 OL before OL 4-0 PSV
OL 1-0 Toulouse before OL 0-0 AC Milan
Troyes 0-1 OL before AC Milan 3-1 OL
Troyes were twice victims last season and this Saturday’s referee Monsieur Didier Thual also refereed OL twice in the games before Champions League matches last year (OL – Sochaux and Troyes – OL).
Also of note was that OL took the lead in the championship at the completion of Week 5 last season. With Marseille travelling to Paris-SG, there’s every chance that OL will be sole leaders come Sunday evening.
Sidney Govou spoke to the media the day after his double against Italy and admitted he does have a habit of scoring spectacular goals, but conceded he would like to score more. Lets take a look at his record with OL over the past four seasons…
2005-2006: 8 goals from 85 shots; he was the only Olympian to have scored in four of the last season’s five competitions (Ligue 1, Coupe de la Ligue, Coupe de France and the Champions League).
2004-2005: 8 goals from 83 shots
2003-2004: 5 goals from 67 shots
2002-2003: 14 goals from 94 shots
