In April; Les Lyonnais played twice against Italian giants Juventus and twice against the Parisian ogres in just 16 days... needless to say the season was entering the business end, a chance for glory, but also heartache...

Against La Vecchia Donna, OL offered more than just resistance. Les Lyonnais held the Turin giants until the 86th minute. A goal from Bonnuci made the return match in Italy in this Europa Ligue quarter-final a lot more complicated. There may be a world between a world famous foreign club to a local team struggling for results, but OL still had to do the job. And that's what they did, even if Valenciennes couldn't have equalized, were it not for another brilliant save from Anthony Lopes to save a penalty. Hope of finishing fourth was rekindled...

The burning ambition to cause an upset in the return leg against Juventus had also intensified, despite the loss in the first game. Les Lyonnais caused Juve all sorts of problems for 70 minutes… before a deflected goal settled the matter (2-1). OL exited the European stage with their heads held high. However, there was a positive aura around the team and a feeling that an upset against Paris 72 hours later was a real possibility...

A long-range bomb from Jordan Ferri and another wonderful display from Anthony Lopes, saw OL knock off the league leaders. PSG had one knee on the ground, their pride had taken a blow, they were looking for revenge... they would get their chance a week later in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue. This time, the scenario didn't go OL's well. A nervy start saw OL concede two early goals, including a penalty that should never have been awarded for a foul outside the area. Les Lyonnais pulled a goal back and searched for a late equaliser... but in vain. Cruel...

But there was no time to cry over spilt milk. The season objective of qualifying for Europe still needed work. Marseille were still hoping to overtake OL and steal away that final spot. It became a real threat after OL survived a trip to Toulouse where they emerged with a miraculous point. OL were then back at the Stade de Gerland and turned on the style. The supporters were treated to thrilling display of attacking football. With three games left to play, OL were just two points off fourth and five points ahead of Marseille. There was still everything left to play for...
