AS Roma matches OL

Just like OL, AS Roma didn’t mess around in beating its nearest league rival, Palermo, 4-0.

The victory was longer in coming about than the big score line might suggest. The Romans had to wait until the 44th minute to open the score, with the Brazilian Mancini sending Fontana the wrong way with a powerful right-foot shot. 10 minutes from the end, Mancini doubled his tally. br /> Francesco Totti also scored a brace, taking himself to the top of the scorers’ charts with 11 conversions this season.

Thanks to this convincing win, the Romans have consolidated second place in the league, pushing Palermo 4 points adrift. They now have the best attack and the best defence in Serie A but still trail 7 points behind leaders Inter Milan, which won 2-0 at Messina.

The only bad news for Luciano Spalletti: an ankle injury sustained by Italy international midfielder Simone Perrotta that will see him miss the upcoming games against Torino and Cagliari.

AS Roma’s line-up : Doni, Panucci, Mexes, Chivu (Rosi 87’), Perrotta (Cassetti 46’), Taddeï, Mancini, De Rossi, Totti, Tonetto, Pizarro (Virga 90’).
