Coming up against a strong Bordeaux side, Lyon trailed before fighting back to parity to earn a point and thereby maintain a four-point buffer between their fourth place and Bordeaux's fifth. But that point might not be enough to keep Lyon in the running for a top-three place.

In driving rain, Bordeaux and Lyon didn't have time to feel each other out. The start of this fixture between the league's fourth and fifth-placed teams was characterised by a combativeness and high pressing from the hosts. The first big chance fell to Lyon, but Lacazette found only the side netting. When Bordeaux's chance came, Vada managed a lot better: he slotted past Lopes... while he was clearly offside. Lyon lost no time reacting: it took a huge save from Carrasso to parry Memphis's fierce drive and deny Lyon an equaliser. Under Lyon's pressure, Bordeaux took to playing on the break. Malcom could well have been awarded a penalty after a lightning attack not long before the break.
Without as much attacking prowess as usual, OL quickly changed to a 4-2-3-1 when Valbuena went on for Gonalons and Fekir, nursing a sore back, went off for Cornet. This double substitution didn't immediately have the intended effect and it was indeed Bordeaux who carved out the better chances with the involvement of Vada, Laborde and Kamano. Diakhaby responded by imposing his height, but his header went just over the bar. With another header, though, Mammana was more accurate and finally earned a reward for Lyon's spell of dominance with his first goal for his club. Lyon carried on in the ascendancy till the end of the match, but had nothing more to show for it. So Lyon take just one point from Bordeaux and maintain their league lead over the same opponent.
. TURNING POINT .
Anthony Lopes keeps his team afloat
Two crucial saves in two minutes. Anthony Lopes made a significant contribution to this draw in Bordeaux. In the 68th and 69th minutes, the Lyon keeper effectively kept his team, already one down, in the match: with a superb save from Laborde's close-range shot and then with a decisive clearance to deny Kamano. Bordeaux's doubling their lead was thus avoided and five minutes later Lyon managed to draw level to take a point.
