After fifth in La Liga, Sevilla won the Europa League final against Benfica on penalties, the first continental crown in the club's history, founded in 1905.
Lyon and Sevilla have never met in official competition. However they did meet in a friendly Spain in a friendly in 2009. Les Olympiens went down 1-0, in a match that featured two sendings off and featured Lisandro Lopez's debut for OL.
