.THE MATCH.

Barely 24 hours after OM drew at Guingamp, Lyon had the perfect opportunity to secure a place on the podium and book their ticket to next season's Champions League. In order to do that, they needed to get all three points Saturday against a Strasbourg side that was fighting for survival in Ligue 1 Conforama. But after 20 minutes without any scoring chances, it was the home team that broke the ice thanks to Bahoken. A second goal was almost in the cards for Strasbourg, but the woodwork denied Corgnet's overhead kick. Lyon were jostled, rattled by their opponent's discipline and commitment. Despite a slight improvement as the minutes advanced, they went into the halftime break without any real looks at goal.

Bruno Genesio's men came back with much better intentions in the second half and were immediately rewarded with a penalty equalizer by Fekir. The tying goal strengthened Lyon, who took their first lead of the game in the 73rd minute when Aouar cooly slotted home his close-range shot. The visitors were in control of things... until Da Costa leveled with a header one minute from time. The worse was yet to come, however, as Lienard connected a perfect free kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time to hand a shock defeat to OL and bump them down to third place in the standings.

. THE STAT .

This season, OL scored in each of their 16 away league matches. Against Strasbourg, goals from Nabil Fekir and Houssem Aouar confirmed Lyon's as the best away attack, ahead of PSG. With 49 goals outside the confines of Groupama Stadium, this was Les Gones' most prolific season ever in Ligue 1.

«Strasbourg searched for the victory with commitment, solidarity, self-sacrifice and values. We didn't think they'd be able to turn things around after Aouar's goal. But that's football. The victory was so close for us, it's a shame. »
