Les Lyonnais arrive in Kiev

Published on the 15 October 2006 à 21:13 by BV/GG

“Here we are in Saint-Tropez!” As the players descended from their plane, jokes were the order of the day as the players switched from the mild Lyon temperatures to just 2 or 3°c in Kiev. Cris even pulled out the woolly hat for the first time this season...

“I’ll be wearing gloves to play,” stated Juninho, happy to be making the trip east before the Ukrainian winter fully took hold.

The day of transition began at 14:02 when the team left the Tola Vologe training complex, sent off by a dozen fans present to wish their side good luck.
To the 19-man squad that emerged victorious over Saint-Etienne, was added Fred and John Carew. The Lyon squad set off on a tour of Europe with touchdowns in Switzerland, Austria and Slovakia before finally landing in Kiev at 19:00 local time (18:00 French time).
While the majority of the players used the three-hour flight for the siesta, the Brazilian-Portuguese contingent got stuck into the tradition game of Uno.
Gérard Houllier watched a DVD of the weekend’s game against Saint-Etienne.

Upon arrival, the team was met by a full-house of journalists and photographers and took several minutes to reach their waiting coach.

The team will train one last time on Monday afternoon at the Olympic Stadium.
