Ten Lyon players played with their national teams on Wednesday. Of special note was John Carew’s goal with Norway and the strong Lyon presence at the Stade de France as Les Bleus defeated Greece…

France defeated Greece, 1-0 (Thierry Henry), at the end of a tight affair. At kick off there were four Lyonnais in the starting line-up. At half time, François Clerc and Alou Diarra came on. Grégory Coupet didn’t have a busy evening, punching clear the only Greek effort on target all night. Sylvain Wiltord was lively in the French attack and drew a fine save from Nikopolidis with a powerful left-foot shot from the edge of the area. Florent Malouda and Eric Abidal were once again Raymond Domenech’s left-side preference.
In their fourth Euro 2008 qualifying match, Portugal easily defeated Kazakhstan, 3-0. Tiago played the whole match. Portugal are currently fourth in Group A, four points behind the leader Finland.

At the Stade Saint Jakob in Basel, Switzerland ended their 2006 international season with a 2-1 defeat to Brazil. Patrick Müller replaced Djourou on the hour mark.

In Belgrade, Serbia and Norway drew 1-1. John Carew equalised in the 22nd minute. The Norway skipper was replaced in the 77th minute.

In Luynes, Yacine Hima played in Algeria’s 2-1 defeat to Burkina Faso. Coming on in the 77th minute, he could not help his side avoid defeat.
