Olympique Lyonnais’ three Group E rivals all played last weekend. While there were wins for Dynamo Kiev and Real Madrid, Steaua Bucharest waved goodbye to their title aspirations…

[IMG41156#L]It was a bad day for Steaua Bucharest in the race for next season’s European places. Cosmin Olaroiu’s side suffered their second defeat of the season, going down 2-1 away to Otelul. Olympique Lyonnais’ future opponents were undone by a Jula strike just 8 minutes from the end. Steaua’s goal came from Cyril Théréau.
Following this latest defeat, Steaua Bucharest remain in second place in the standings, 12 points from the leaders Dinamo Bucharest, but now only lead Otelul on goal difference.

[IMG41157#L]On Saturday, Dynamo Kiev comfortably defeated the second-from-bottom Stal Alchevsk, 3-1. Mikhalisk, Rebrov (penalty) and Kleber were the Dynamo goal scorers.
Thanks to that victory, Anatoli Demianenko’s side have reclaimed the lead from Chaktar Donetsk, who suffered their first defeat of the season at home to Arsenal Kiev, 1-0.

[IMG41155#L]On Sunday, in El Classico, Real Madrid defeated their great rivals FC Barcelone 2-0. The Madrid goals were scored by Raul and Van Nistelrooy. Fabio Capello’s side also closed the gap at the top and now trail Barca by just two points. Real inflicted the first defeat of the season on their rivals and also returned to form after their recent loss to Getafe.
