OL draw Lloris' Spurs

Published on the 20 December 2012 à 14:34 by R.B

Fate decided that Hugo Lloris' Tottenham should take on Olympique Lyonnais in the last 32 of the Europa League... before a possible clash with Inter Milan or Cluj on the last 16...

On February 14, 2013, Ol will travel to White Hart Lane before playing host to Spurs on February 21... a repeat of of the Cupwinners Cup clash between the two sides in season 1967-68, when OL won through thanks to Fleury Di Nallo's lone strike at Gerland and a narrow 4-3 defeat in England with goals from Di Nallo, Angel Rambert and Mohammed Bouassa... with an impressive display from Yves Chauveau between the sticks. And let's not forget the final of the Peace Cup on July 24, 2005, when a Kanouté-led Spurs won out 3-1over OL (Ben Arfa, pen.).

OL wil be up against  Hugo Lloris and Gareth Bale, Gallas, Lennon, Parker (a former Aston Villa player of the Robert Duverne era) Adebayor, Defoe, Verthongen (ex-Ajax, who played against OL last season) and Kaboul… while Steed Malbranque will take on one of the lcubs he represented during his ten years in the English game.

Spurs currently sit in fourth place in the EPL, 13 points behind Manchester United. Lloris and co. take on Stoke this weekend.

The London club has won two English league titles, in 1951 and 1961; eight FA Cups; eight League Cups; two UEFA Cups, in 1972 and 1984; and one Cupwinners Cup, in 1963.

Darren Nils (Tottenham director)

"It's one of the biggest clashes of the last 32. OL are doing very well domestically and they have a wealth of European experience, especially in the Champions League. It's a tough draw against a quality side. It wil be very special for Hugo [Lloris]. He'll do everything he can to help us qualify and will be very useful for us as we prepare for these matches."

Jean-Michel Aulas

"It won't be easy. The fact that we're up against a side of the calibre of Tottenham shows how high the level of the Europa League is. We'll give it all we've got... obviously it will be a bit emotional with Hugo Lloris lining up for the opposition..."
