Olympique Lyonnais Women punched their ticket for the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League on Wednesday with a 6-0 home win over Sparta Prague in front of 6,461 fans at the Stade Gerland...
It all happened so quickly... too quickly for Sparta Prague... It only took Les Lyonnaises three minutes to open the scoring when Lara Dickenmann won the ball on the edge of the opposition penalty area, and coolly chipped the ball over the advancing Czech 'keeper (1-0, 3').
Compact and organised, the Czech Republic side fought hard to stay in the game and despite two good chances for Eugénie Le Sommer, it remained 1-0 at the break.
Immediately after the restart, Corine Franco released Lotta Schelin who crossed picked out Camille Abily in the middle and she gave Lenka Gazdikova in the Sparta goal absolutely no chance (2-0, 46').
Have made the break, the floodgates opened. Eugénie Le Sommer crossed for Camille Abily, who again added the finishing touch (3-0, 50'). Lotta Schelin then added goal No.4 with a great finish at the near post after dancing her way through the defence (4-0, 58'). Schelin and Bompastor then combined for Louisa Necib to score at the back post (5-0, 66'). Finally, it was a set piece to round out the scoring for Les Olympiennes. Corine Franco laid it into the path of Laura Georges to net her second European goal (6-0, 86')
It was an identical score to the first leg last week in Prague as defending champions OL march into the quarter-finals of the Women's Champions League. The finals draw will be held next Thursday.
