OL Women defeat PSG and claim commanding lead in standings

The Olympique Lyonnais Women's team took a huge step towards defending their Division 1 title on Monday night with a 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Lyon.

The match everyone had been waiting for took place on Monday night at the Groupama Stadium when the two undisputed powerhouses of Women's football in France went head to head in Week 11 of the Women's D1. Reynald Pedros' OL side, league leaders, against Patrice Lair's Paris Saint-Germain, second on the ladder, in a repeat of last season's Champions League final, won by Les Lyonnaises.

OL made an electric start and went ahead when Ada Hegerberg netted from Lucy Bronze's magnificent assist (12’, 1-0). It was the Norway striker's 16th league goal this season. Bronze then went close herself to doubling the advantage - denied only by a fantastic reflex save from Endler in the PSG goal (26’). Just a week after being named the Best Goalkeeper in the World, Sarah Bouhaddi produced an equally impressive save to deny Katoto an equaliser (31’).

It was a tight and competitive affair with few chances for either side. Paris made two changes at the break, with Diallo and Geyoro coming in and the side from the capital began to put their foot on the ball. But PSG lacked a cutting edgeg in attack, highlighted by Diani's incredible miss against Bouhaddi (66’). Lyon held on for the win.

The slender victory opens up a big lead in the standings, with OL now five points clear of second-placed PSG after an 11th victory in as many D1 matches this season.
