first team / OL - Monaco D-1

Round 19 of Ligue 1

Published on the 22 December 2006 à 10:04 by R.B

The 19th and final round for the away phase of the French league, with OM-St-Etienne, the Sochaux derby between Sochaux and Nancy… and OL-Monaco.

OM-ASSE? A blast from the past and the Marseillais will be out to finish the year on a good note and to pull themselves back to one points behind their visitors, who will be without Ilan (1 win and four draws on the road). Sochaux lost at home in the quarter final of the Coupe de la Ligue. Sochaux who put 3 past Monaco, haven’t scored in the last 2 league rounds. In beating Nancy, Richert’s team-mates, minus Bréchet and Leroy, just might take the podium. Nancy would like to erase its memory of the Cup loss, and will work hard on its defence .

Troyes, without Nivet, hasn’t lost in 4 games, but still has trouble at home (2 wins in 9 matches). PSG hasn’t won in six and has to be careful to avoid the relegation zone, with Pauleta, Rothen, Yepes and Rodriguez all missing. Nice brought home a point from the Parc des Princes and just need to take 3 points at home to breathe easier. Rool, Balmont... out. Lens took a hiding from OL. Lens is under pressure from St-Etienne, Lille and Sochaux for second spot. Lille hosts Auxerre... a chance for Lille to get back to winning ways after a defeat away to Sedan. Sorin will make his ‘keeping debut at Auxerre.

Lorient is the best of the promoted sides, and a 7th win would end the year nicely for them. Rennes was knocked out of the Coupe de la Ligue by Reims and just played a draw at home to Troyes, meaning they have some catching up to do, especially as they will be missing Sorlin. Toulouse have slipped down the table recently, with 2 losses in two matches, no goals scored. Bordeaux has slowed its league pace; 5 points from the last 7 games. Sedan-VA? The battle of the promoted sides one of which is the success story (Sedan), with the other at the foot of the table: no goals in the last three games and only 1 point accrued. A meeting between the league’s 2 worst defences and 2 worst attacks.
